For remote interpreting on Zoom, Teams, Webex, or similar platforms, Sight-Terp Assist needs to hear the meeting audio from your computer. The recommended setup uses VB-Cable (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) — a lightweight virtual audio device with no extra background apps required.
Before you start: Download VB-Cable for your platform, install it, and restart your computer. A reboot is required so the virtual audio drivers load correctly on both Windows and macOS.

Important: Only change the speaker/output device in your meeting app. Keep your physical microphone selected in Zoom, Teams, or Webex so others can hear you.
WIN
Windows
VB-Cable only
This method uses only VB-Cable and the classic Windows Sound Control Panel. No third-party routing apps need to run in the background.
Step 1: Install VB-Cable
- Download VB-CABLE from vb-audio.com/Cable and extract the ZIP file.
- Run
VBCABLE_Setup_x64.exe (64-bit) or VBCABLE_Setup.exe (32-bit) — right-click and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation, then restart your PC — this step is crucial for Windows to initialize the virtual audio drivers.
Step 2: Route the virtual cable to your headphones
Windows must copy whatever enters the virtual cable and send it to your physical headphones or speakers so you can still hear the meeting.
- Right-click the Speaker icon in the system tray (bottom-right) and select Sounds, or press Win + R, type
mmsys.cpl, and press Enter to open the classic Sound Control Panel.
- Go to the Recording tab.
- If CABLE Output is not listed, right-click an empty area and enable Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices, then right-click CABLE Output and choose Enable.
- Right-click CABLE Output and select Properties.
- Open the Listen tab.
- Check Listen to this device.
- Under Playback through this device, select your physical headphones or speakers.
- Click Apply, then OK.
Step 3: Configure Zoom / Teams and Sight-Terp Assist

CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) |
- In your meeting app, set the speaker/output to CABLE Input (VB-Audio Virtual Cable).
- In Sight-Terp Assist, refresh the device list and set the microphone/input to CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable). Allow microphone access if your browser prompts you.
- Join a test meeting or play sample audio to confirm transcripts appear in Assist while you hear the audio through your headphones.
Tip: If you hear an echo, lower the meeting app volume or the Listen-tab level. Some latency between Listen routing and direct output is normal on Windows.
MAC
macOS
Audio MIDI Setup
On Mac, use Audio MIDI Setup to create a Multi-Output Device that sends meeting audio to both your headphones and VB-Cable at the same time.
Step 1: Install VB-Cable
- Download VB-CABLE from vb-audio.com/Cable and run the macOS installer.
- Approve any System Settings security prompts for the VB-Audio driver (you may need to allow the system extension under Privacy & Security).
- Restart your Mac so the virtual cable appears in your audio device list.
Step 2: Create a Multi-Output Device in Audio MIDI Setup
- Open Audio MIDI Setup (Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup, or search with Spotlight).
- Click the + button at the bottom-left corner and choose Create Multi-Output Device.
- In the device list on the right, check both:
- Your physical output (e.g. External Headphones or MacBook Pro Speakers)
- VB-Cable (may also appear as VB-Audio Virtual Cable)
- Enable Drift Correction on VB-Cable (clock source should stay on your physical output). This keeps both outputs in sync.
- Optionally rename the device (e.g. "Meeting + VB-Cable") by double-clicking its name in the sidebar.
- Right-click the Multi-Output Device and choose Use This Device For Sound Output, or set it as the system output in System Settings > Sound > Output.
Step 3: Configure your meeting app and Sight-Terp Assist
| Application |

Select this device |

VB-Cable (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) |
- Ensure your Mac's system sound output is set to the Multi-Output Device (meeting apps usually follow the system default).
- In Sight-Terp Assist, refresh the device list and select VB-Cable as the input source. Allow microphone access if your browser prompts you.
- Play test audio or join a brief meeting to verify you hear participants in your headphones while Assist transcribes the same feed.
Note: If VB-Cable does not appear after installation, open System Settings > Privacy & Security, allow the VB-Audio system extension, and restart again.
Alternative: hardware capture path (TRS splitter)
If virtual routing is not available on your machine, you can capture meeting audio with a physical TRS splitter and USB adapter instead of VB-Cable.
TRS splitter + USB adapter:
- Plug the male jack of a TRS splitter into your computer's headphone output port.
- Plug your headphones into one of the TRS splitter's female ports so you can continue monitoring.
- Connect the other female port to a TRS audio cable.
- Plug the other end of the TRS audio cable into the microphone port of a USB adapter.
- Insert the USB adapter into your computer's USB port.
- In Sight-Terp Assist, select the USB adapter as the audio input source (refresh your device list if needed).
- Verify that your headphones and microphone still work correctly in your video conferencing software.
